Seeing is Believing
An ultrasound is rarely just a routine clinical test. In obstetrics, it is profoundly emotional—often the exact moment the abstract idea of a pregnancy suddenly becomes a visible, heartbeat-pumping reality. In gynecology, it is the moment a source of chronic, invisible pain is finally identified on a screen.
At MomDoc, we believe you shouldn't have to navigate across town to a sterile, third-party imaging center to get answers. We have integrated highly advanced diagnostic ultrasound technology directly into our offices, providing you with immediate clinical insights in a comforting environment you already know.
Obstetric Ultrasound: Documenting the Journey
Pregnancy is a series of clinical milestones. We utilize targeted obstetric imaging to safely monitor the healthy growth and development of your baby throughout your gestational journey.
According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), standard medically indicated ultrasounds include [1]:
- The First Trimester Dating Scan: Conducted around 8-10 weeks to confirm the heartbeat, determine if there are multiples, and establish a precise estimated due date based on embryonic measurements. Accuracy is highest during this window.
- The Anatomy Scan (Level II): Usually performed around 18-22 weeks. This is a comprehensive, highly detailed assessment of the baby's structural development, including examining the brain, heart, spine, and major organs.
- Targeted Third Trimester Scans: ACOG does not recommend routine, universal third-trimester ultrasounds for low-risk pregnancies [1]. However, if medically indicated (such as measuring low amniotic fluid, checking for a breech presentation, or monitoring growth restrictions), your provider will order specific scans to ensure a safe delivery environment.
Gynecologic Diagnostics: Answers Without Surgery
When you are experiencing severe pelvic pain or abnormal bleeding, you deserve accurate answers quickly.
Using both transabdominal (over the belly) and transvaginal (internal) ultrasound probes, our highly trained sonographers can provide your MomDoc physician with crystal-clear imaging of your uterus, ovaries, and fallopian tubes. We routinely use this non-invasive technology to:
- Map the exact size and location of painful uterine fibroids.
- Diagnose fluid-filled ovarian cysts.
- Assess the thickness of the uterine lining (endometrium).
- Verify that an IUD remains perfectly in place.
The MomDoc Difference: 3D and 4D Pioneers
While medical safety is always our primary objective, we also understand the profound psychological joy of seeing your child. MomDoc was physically the first OB/GYN practice in the state of Arizona to introduce 3D and 4D Live Motion Ultrasound technology to expectant parents.
Beyond standard 2D diagnostic scans, many of our locations offer incredible visual keepsake packages, allowing you to see the actual topography of your baby's face, watch them yawn or suck their thumb, and begin bonding months before they arrive.
